    First wishing you all a very happy new year and our best wishes. In the last year we have had some good activities and we feel we are capable of much more even at the luxury of our own pace and convenience. Hence in spite of the very innovative activities undertaken,there is something that is always wanting and neccessary

    There is very less internal activity from FROST in the last few months, possibly because of the pandemic. Even the monthly meetings have taken a back seat.

FORUM FOR RIVER AND OCEAN SCIENTISTS AND TECHNOLOGISTS (FROST) has been conceived as a conglomoration of people who would provide a thought process for growth in Oceanographic study, Maritime sector, Shipbuilding, Riverine sector and Sustainability areas in the water sector as an independent manner based on collective knowledge and discussions.

FROST is to generate awareness amongst administrators, beaurocrats and public in general in relevant areas, disseminate knowledge and skill to various stake holders and students, assist government and other stake holders in developing a road map for progress in this sector, policy generation for this purpose and highlight immediate issues of concern and growth as and when necessary.

Past Activities

  • - Seminar on Safety of Boats, 18th January, 2017 at Bhubaneswar.
  • - All India seminar on Natural Gas in Inland and coastal Shipping, 18-19 November, 2017 at Bhubaneswar.
  • - Stake holders meet on Safety of wooden boats at CDA, Barkul on 31st march 2018.
  • - Guidance and advice on Modification of wooden tourism boat of CDA in Chilika.
  • - Meeting government officials, CDA officials and interested parties highlighting the need for water systems development.
  • - Popular lectures at schools and colleges.
  • - Archaeological studies on Water front.
  • - Exploratory studies on Odisha Maritime history, Ship building, Sea trade etc.
  • - International Seminar on Coastal and Inland water Systems (CIS 2019), on 16 and 17 December, 2019 at Bhubaneswar and Barkul on Chilika.
  • - Webinars by prof S C Misra and Dr P Misra addressing post covid-19 issues.
  • - Study of Ansupa lake and its feeder canals with report Seminar on Safety of Boats, 18th January, 2017 at Bhubaneswar.

    • Future Activities

  • - Workshops at Odisha Maritime Museum (OMM) on Maritime Cultural Heritage, Archeology & Social Economic Effects.
  • - Reviving Gangua River & connecting canals as a tourist destination & Flood control; of Bhubaneswar City.
  • - Enhancing the Maritime Transport sector in the state with safe boats, adequate regulations, monitoring & control.
  • - Design, testing & implementation of swallow water IWT crafts & traditional passanger boats.
  • - In discussions with ODRF for safety related training and lectures.
  • - Continue our efforts to sensitise schools and colleges on water management.
  • - Solar powered propulsion mechanism for CDA passenger boats design and conversion.
  • - Analysing and supporting infra for potable water testing and irrigation water conservation.
